Story Behind Famous Photographs – Alfred Eisenstaedt “The Kiss”

German Photojournalist, Albert Eisenstaedt was at Times Square on August 14th, 1945 – the day Japan announced their surrender, marking the end of World War II. The nation was celebrating and it was amongst these celebrations that Eisenstaedt came across one particular sailor who was feeling extra overjoyed with the news. At first glance this famous photograph titled “The Kiss” by ‘Life’ Magazine comes across as sweet, romantic and on some degree patriotic image. But as Eisenstaedt explains, the Sailor had being “running along the street grabbing any girl in sight, whether she was a grandmother, stout, thin, old… didn’t make any difference.” Eisenstaedt explanation disregards many critics who accused him of staging the whole thing, and also defers the audience from any romantic ideals that they may attach to this photograph.

Story Behind Famous Photographs – Iain Macmillan “Abbey Road”

It took just 10 minutes for photographer Iain Macmillan to create one of the most famous photographs to come out of the sixties. The date was August 8th, 1969, and Macmillan had climbed a ladder at the end of Abbey Road where he took just 6 images of The Beatles crossing that infamous zebra crossing. From those 6 images, The Beatles chose the above image to feature as their cover for the Abbey Road LP. Since then, this photo has become an icon of it’s era and one of the most imitated images to this date, with bands such as The Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Kayne West and Popular Rock Magazine ‘Rolling Stone’ featuring a Simpsons Cover with Bart, Lisa, Homer and Marge posing as The Beatles strutting down Abbey Road.Pin It

Recently we photographed Tony and Lena’s function at Dockside, and were completely blown away with the delightful service, the food and above all the atmosphere that kept friends and family partying well into the night.

Instagram: Our new best friend

Have you got an iPhone?

Chances are you’ve already caught on to what some describe as the Photography version of Facebook; Instagram… have you heard of it?

Well for those of you who haven’t, Instagram is an app you can download from your Apple iPhone and instead of status updating your thoughts and things you get up to everyday, Instagram gives you the chance to upload photos. The beauty of Instagram is that it offers a great range of filters. These filters range from your classic black and white, to vintage borders, vignettes, washed out tones to high contrast tones. It instantly makes your picture into little works of art just by a click of the button. Makes you wonder if this is where digital photography is headed in the coming years.

Perhaps this will be the death of Photoshop and the rise of a new instantaneous way of editing our digital photographs. Either way, I am excited to see what’s in store for us in the not too distant future.

Angelo’s on the Bay

Angelo’s on the Bay is a modern Italian restaurant which caters for elegant weddings and family celebrations. Over looking the wonderful water views and beach escarpment of Hen and Chicken bay. Angelo’s is a family run business by Guy Piccin boasting innovative seafood cuisine prepared by Chef Andrew Talese. The scollop entree I had at Pauline and Silas’s wedding was amazing. Guy who has been in the wedding industry for many years with his vast experience and knowledge guarantees a memorable and entertaining evening.

Angelo’s sets the bench mark for quality of food and exceptional service in the Canada Bay area for weddings and functions but apart from the fine food and beautiful views it is a great location for photography with a picturesque park next door and wonderful harbour beach just a stroll away. The park is so lovely that many couples choose to have their ceremony there and then retire to the balcony and verandah of Angelo’s to enjoy a relaxing cocktail or champagne to celebrate their nuptials. If you are looking for a “all in one” location to celebrate your wedding day it is hard to go past Angelo’s.

I have personally eaten there many times and have never been disappointed with the quality of food or friendly service.

Lena and Tony’s wedding

On Saturday we spent the day photographing Tony and Lena’s Wedding. The day began at Tony’s parents house in Croydon where we were greeted with open arms. Photographing Tony was like photographing a celebrity, as he has this uncanny resemblance to Mark Swartzer the Australian soccer player. We apologise again Tony for continuously calling you Mark, throughout the day.

As we arrived at Lena’s family home, the party had already begun, with a full house of family and friends dancing, drinking and sharing in on a delicious banquet of food.

The pair were married at the Armenian Apostolic Church of Holy Resurrection in Chatswood, which was filled to capacity with family and friends. The ceremony was beautiful with wonderful traditions that accentuated the couple’s cultural heritage.

As the ceremony came to an end, we were back on the road to Lavender Bay to capture some romance with the newly weds and their loyal bridal party. The greenery, the sand and the views of the harbour allowed for some great variety in photographs which we know Tony and Lena will treasure for years to come.

As the sun began to fall, we headed into the city to Dockside for the reception, which was filled with an atmosphere of family, fun and happiness. Tony and Lena have some remarkable family and friends who made the reception such a fun event, great music and entertainment who kept the crowd on the dance floor til the early hours of the morning.

A big thank you to Tony and Lena for letting us share in on their special day, you both are such beautiful individuals who and we wish you a world of happiness together.

Oula and Alex’s recent wedding album

Alex and Oula had a gorgeous wedding late last year and their wedding album will become a cherished source of memories for them for years to come. They chose an acrylic photo cover to personalize their album and the black and white image used really shows the feeling of love, laughter and elegance that was evident throughout their whole wedding day. Silas and Pauline’s Wedding Sneak Preview

Yesterday I spent the day photographing Silas and Paulines gorgeous city Wedding. Silas and Pauline were married at St Paul’s Church in Burwood which allowed for us to capture some truly heart-felt photographs in this cathedral-like venue. The pair decided on a more intimate ceremony, by opting not to include a bridal party, instead, the ceremony largely being just the two of them and Pauline’s son Zac, who doubled as the page-boy.

After the ceremony we ventured into the city for the location photography. We used a variety of large rustic looking doors, stair wells, both modern and traditional city building textures and the surroundings of Cabarita to help emphasise the emotions that filled the day from start to finish. The Reception was held at Angelo’s on the Bay where it was great to see past clients Marcel & Angelo’s and more recently Paul and Adriana. The couple surprised their guests with a talented belly dancers, and dear Zac and cousin Maddy surprised Pauline with their Italian poem which certainly tugged a few heart strings throughout the room.

Congratulations both Silas and Pauline, we thank you so much for letting us share in on your special day, we wish you both the world of happiness, and hope you enjoy the photos captured throughout the day.

Congratulations to Anne-Marie Dupre for winning a double pass to the Australian Bridal Service Bridal expo held next February 4th and 5th at the Sydney Entertainment centre. This years bridal fair is shaping up to be the biggest and the best with over 100 vendor stands each showing off the best of the best in the Australian Bridal industry. Anne-Marie was over the moon when told of winning this wonderful prize as she has many more things to organise for her October 20th Nuptials which will be held at the Greek church in Hurlestone park and then a lavish reception at Sydney’s famous La Montage.Pin It

Driving in to the sun set

One of the new features we are hoping to incorporate with our new web site is the ability to change the landing or splash page image daily!! Our aim is to give the site a fresh new look each and every day in the hope that potential new clients will keep coming back to look and thus become more familiar with our work. We trust that by changing the images daily our site will look more vibrant, less static and well different. The theme we have incorporated is based on moments, “moments like these are taylor-made” meaning that the capturing and creating of these moments is unique to each Bride and Groom and that they have been taylor-made for them. It goes along way with the philosophy of our business where each couple has an individual identity and each wedding is documented in a style that suits that particular couple.

Rebecca & Mark Pre Wedding Shoot

Rebecca and Mark are getting married in Autumn this year. Like so many couples today, they opted to do a pre-wedding shoot, which gives the couple a chance to really get to know their photographer prior to their Wedding Date. We met at the Rocks in the city early Saturday morning, and despite the horribly heavy rain that just wouldn’t go away, we had a great time. The overcast weather allowed for some truly magical shots. Rebecca and Mark were so wonderful to photograph, as they are both such down-to-earth individuals who’s candid styled photos speak loudly of how they feel for one another.

New photo editing software (Snap Seed)

New photo editing software that was originally designed for the iPhone and the iPad 2 has just recently become available for desk top and lap top computers. The new software called Snap Seed was developed by the Nik software team in America and is the easiest way to edit photos in a creative and artistic way. For the last 6 months i have been using Snap Seed on my iPad 2 to edit my street and personal photography which lately has been shot with my rangefinder style Fuji x100 camera and i have been astounded with the results. The soft ware is so intuitive and the results appear before your eyes in a matter of seconds. Snap it Tweak it Love it Share it says it all really..
